Article Accident Compensation Commission, Fiji Makes A Further Payment
The Accident Compensation Commission, Fiji (ACCF) has made a further payment today under the Accident Compensation Act 2017.

The sum of $75,000 has been paid to Lilieta Bolaitamana, the daughter of the late Alanieta Qionibaravi, who passed away due to a motor vehicle on 17th of February 2018 along Marine Drive, Lami. Ms Qionibaravi was hit by a motor vehicle as she was crossing the road in Lami and died instantly.

ACCF CEO, Parvez Akbar extended his deepest sympathies to the family of Ms Qionibaravi on behalf of the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji.

Mr Akbar acknowledged that no amount of compensation could ever replace Ms Qionibaravi, however, felt privileged that ACCF was able to provide some assistance and support during a very difficult time for the family.

Fortunately compensation under the Accident Compensation Act is processed on a no-fault basis so Ms Qionibaravi’s family did not have to worry about proving fault of the motor vehicle driver who hit her as she was crossing the road. Nor did they have to worry about any application fees, legal fees or other costs. Ms Qionibaravi’s daughter said her mother could not be replaced, however, they felt blessed that the ACCF scheme was in place at the time of the accident. She had previously lost a brother to a motor vehicle accident prior to the Accident Compensation Act coming into force and the family did not receive compensation at the time. So she considered the introduction of ACCF as a blessing.

Mr Akbar emphasised the importance of road safety and said ACCF was continuing to strongly support road safety campaigns and messages. He urged everyone to exercise vigilance on the roads and respect the rights of all road users.
